What Is This?
This is a simple, buggy prototype built off of a tutorial by HeartBeast (Benjamin Anderson) I made when I was very young in early high school. I was specifically experimenting with the use of surfaces in GameMaker: Studio 1, using surfaces to dynamically scale customly, uphold physics-based blood splatter, and enable lighting.
It turned out that combining all three of these ideas at the same time with my first attempt at using surfaces was a bad idea... When put together, they would break each other. I'm very happy about how the lighting system turned out, that worked very well for my current skill level at the time, and the physics-based blood splatter also worked very well, however now it seems that the surface storing the blood splatter is not properly cleared when you transition between levels, so all the blood splatter persists between levels incorrectly. The scaling was also completely broken at some point.
This is very old code from high school in an older engine that I have no desire to fix... If I were to return to this concept, I'd prefer to just rewrite everything from scratch anyway.
