A one-button arcade game made for Trijam 66

Which ended up winning 1st place in Trijam 66! Thanks for that! :D

Controls:

  • Spacebar, Mouseclick, W, Z, or Up Arrow to jump
  • R to restart
  • Escape to close game (on Windows)
  • F11 to toggle fullscreen (on Windows)

Theme

The themes I chose from Trijam 66 were:

  • Hexagon
  • Color Hex

Development

This game was made in just about 4.5 hours, rather lazily with no real inspiration or direction... I've been feeling a bit burnt out, but needed to force myself to make something.

I recorded the entire process which will be made available as a time-lapse video soon, where you can see how much time I wasted standing around, meandering aimlessly. Definitely not an efficient development process. At my most optimal development speed, I likely could make this exact same game in an hour or two if I was feeling more inspired and energized.

All ideas, design, code, assets, and builds were made from start-to-finish within the 4.5 hours, well under the 6 hour time limit for Trijam 66. I used Ecrett Music to generate the music and BFXR to generate the sound effects.

EDIT: The game's color palette has been updated, as the previous color palette, while pretty, made the game unplayable for many colorblind users.

A great one-clicker game :) Not that much to say about it. Like other similar good games in the same style I feel you nailed it, the amount you need to click, the progress speed, the tension between clicks etc. What I really liked about this however is the amount of times I felt "I can make it!" when there where a large color collection to make me maaaaybe able to just speed though a hexagon. It really tests your patients :)

Nice simple game. But I can't distinguish between some of the colors.  Is that intentional or my color-blindness?

That would be color-blindness; I apologize for that, I didn't have time to color-blind test during the jam.

The top-left image is the normal colors of the game, where you should see 4 distinct colors in the large hex: cyan, violet, pink, and blue.

The colors would appear different but still distinct to a tritanope, as shown in the bottom-right, but unfortunately protanope and deuteranope color blindness makes the cyan and pink look nearly identical as well as making the violet and blue look nearly identical, as shown in the top-right and bottom-left.

I'll change out the colors to make them distinct to all forms of color-blindness. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.

Great game! Reminds me of a couple of mobile games I used to play!

Thanks!

Fun clicker game!

Thanks, Rich!

I uploaded a new build with a very minor balance fix, making the hexes a bit slower and more spaced out.
